Chas Howe, President of Howe Racing Enterprises and the supplier of the ASCAR rolling chassis, explains their background and involvement

"If you wanted to go stock car racing through 1970 your first step was a trip to the salvage yard to select a wrecked car. You had only your own mechanical skills and ingenuity to rely on to build a competitive machine with what was available. In 1971 stock car racing was about to change forever when my father, Charles "Ed" Howe, left his job as a machinist and founded Howe Racing Enterprises. With the help of his first two employees Ed began taking orders for ready-made, purpose built stock cars and replacement parts. Within weeks a deluge of orders overwhelmed the young entrepreneur and an entire new industry came to life. Howe's products were developed from Ed's 10 years of experience as one of the top drivers in the Eastern United States and Canada. A racing visionary, he developed his products by making them ready to race based on what he had built for himself.

"In 1998 Stock Car Racing Magazine voted Ed Howe as one of the 25 men to make the greatest difference in the sport of stock car racing in the USA. In 1997 after years of dedication to his business and the sport of stock car racing, Ed Howe moved himself to an advisory role and I became President of Howe Racing Enterprises. My father continues to take part in product development and I believe that through his genuine love of racing, he has created better parts by designing them as if each part was for his own use. This same directive is our motivation today.

"As a driver I have compiled over 60 feature event victories and have been active in all facets of the business from an early age. In 1992 Howe Racing Enterprises received an unprecedented endorsement when the American Speed Association (ASA), specified that all new ASA racing cars must utilise a Howe built chassis mid section. Howe continues to be the exclusive producer of mid sections for ASA as well as the SCCA class GT America.

"In 1999 we became involved with a new venture for stock car racing that will bring American stock cars to the United Kingdom, ASCAR. The cars that Howe is producing for ASCAR are based on the ASA chassis design. The ASA type cars are uncomplicated and relatively easy to maintain and their adaptability to oval tracks of various size as well as road circuits is a large part of what makes it so appealing to ASCAR. For the spectator, the Howe ASA cars are indistinguishable from the popular Winston Cup stock cars of NASCAR.

"As the sport of stock car racing has grown and changed, Howe Racing has kept pace. The involvement with ASCAR is one of our next steps into the future of stock car racing. Howe Racing Enterprise will remain the leading supplier of stock cars and components not by making products to sell, but by making product to race."
