ASCAR, the forthcoming oval track racing series and the brainchild of Mike Schmidt, has received a substantial boost and endorsement from Peter Davies, Managing Director of Rockingham Motor Speedway, who has joined the board of ASCAR Ltd as Director and Chairman.

The objective is to ensure ASCAR's first season in 2001 is a success in delivering value for teams and drivers and an exciting new race series for the fans.

"I have been following the ASCAR story since its launch," says Peter Davies. "I aim to provide commercial resources, advice and management direction to the company, allowing Mike to focus on developing the series and handling race operations."

"I am delighted to have Peter Davies personally involved with ASCAR as we can learn from his invaluable experience in oval track development," states Mike Schmidt. "Peter has a deep understanding of the US oval racing scene and is the perfect partner for ASCAR," he adds.

ASCAR is financially independent of Rockingham Motor Speedway and is run and co-ordinated by Schmidt. Though much of the 2001 championship season will include major races at the Corby oval, the series is also set to visit the new Euro Speedway near Berlin as well as established road racing circuits.
