Plans have been announced for the ASCAR series to tour South Africa next winter.

It is hoped to take ten of the new cars over to compete in a series of races during December 2000 and January 2001, including racing on the new Phakisa Freeway oval. They will compete against racers from South Africa's new NASCAR championship, whose cars are powered by identical V8 power plants as the new ASCAR racers. Phakisa circuit boss Bobby Hartslief commented; "This is great news for the drivers and even better news for the racing fans. Our series is all about entertainment, exactly the same as ASCAR. Put the two packages together and you must get something special." The other circuits are the road courses at the Killarney, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

ASCAR have been invited over by the South African series organiser Peter Linenburgh, who is also a top powerboat racer, and he will also be competing on the tour. Other top names expected to race include South African racing folk hero, Sarel van der Merwe, and veteran sportscar racer George Fouche. The British drivers are still to be announced, but news of this will be found on ASCAR net as announced.

ASCAR M.D. Mike Schmidt said; "It is hoped that there will be a return match later to give British fans the same sort of treat that their South African counterparts can expect."
