USAutomotive have become the first ASCAR team to publicly announce their intention to compete in the stock car series when it kicks off in 2001. The UK supplier of component parts for American cars will enter a pair of Chevrolet Monte Carlo's. Team boss Pete Stafford said "We are all excited at the prospect of seeing our cars in the pack on the Rockingham oval next year. The series fits in perfectly with our marketing plans and will provide tremendous visibility for our company and our partners. It was too good an opportunity to miss." One of the Chevy's will be piloted by experienced historic racer Steve Hitchins who had this to say, "I'm looking for a fresh challenge and this has me hooked." The driver of the teams' second Monte Carlo is still to be confirmed. There have been deposits for another 15 cars taken and the first orders are already with US builder Chas Howe. News of other confirmed drivers is expected soon and will be available here on the official ASCAR web site.
