ASCAR MD Mike Schmidt has announced plans for the series to make its race debut on the new purpose-built Lausitzring oval being built in Germany.

Following a visit to the new Lausitzring last week Mike is in negations to run a demonstration race at the tracks opening ceremony on August 20th. He also hopes to establish an ASCAR series in Germany to complement the series planned to run at the new Rockingham Oval, now being constructed near Corby.

Mike said, "It was a really good visit and the Germans are very excited by ASCAR. There is a strong possibility that they will adopt the series." It is expected that a decision as to whether a German championship could run in 2001 could be made as early as next week. Mike was very impressed with the new Lausitzring, which is well into its build programme, "Its stunning", he said. "Hopefully, with Rockingham in the UK, most of the ASCAR races will take place on ovals."

It is hoped that 14 cars will make the trip to Germany in August.
