Following the feature about the new ASCAR in April's Car and Car Conversions the ASCAR hit the track at Donington Park for a feature to be published in the UK's leading motor racing magazine, Autosport.
The test was conducted by the very experienced ex Touring Car and present GT racer John Cleland. Although you will have to get your copy of Autosport to find out what John's views on the monster oval racer were, quotes like "After a race in this you will definitely have a smile on your face" and "power! there's more than enough to have lots of fun", give you an indication that he was fairly impressed.
Also impressed were some of the other GT racers on hand at Donington for a test prior to the weekends Power Tour round at Donington. Bobby Verdon Roe and team mate Ian Mckellar had a good look round the Pontiac with Ian trying the cockpit out for size. Another interested party was Neil Cunningham who also took great joy in trying out the driver's seat, Neil having oval racing experience in the States keen to compare ASCAR's version and he too was very impressed.
Apart from Autosport Sky Sports Paul Muselle was on hand to film a piece to go out on Sky's Busch race coverage. The video will show the first in-car footage taken from an ASCAR as well as shots from around the Donington National circuit, complemented by some of John's entertaining commentary. Also on hand to drive the car was test driver Mike Jordan who was also filmed for the Sky Sports video.
Dates for the feature in Autosport and the Sky coverage are to be announced, but will be put on the web site news page as soon as we know. Also on the web site will be a picture gallery of John Cleland in the ASCAR as soon as the Autosport feature has been published.
