During the launch of the new Eurospeedway at the Lausitzring Oval in Germany, several top name European Championship Truck racers showed more than a passing interest in the new ASCAR machinery on show. ASCAR MD Mike Schmidt, along with Rockingham's Peter Venn, demonstrated the cars on he 2 mile tri-oval in front of over 90,000 spectators.
A great deal of interest was shown in the paddock by competitors from various formulae, but Britain's number 1 truck racer and former European Champion Steve Parrish even tried the car for size. The on track demonstrations went down fantastically well with the fans and the crowd erupting at the sound of the mighty V8 as Mike first fired up his machine.
Also on display was Bryan Herta's Champ Car as well as a selection of historic oval racing machinery. Mike reveled in the experience of driving his ASCAR round an oval at speeds in excess of 175 mph, he had this to say after the event. "This was a fantastic experience, and I am now more convinced than ever that the fans and drivers are going to be blown away by ASCAR and the new oval racing experience of Rockingham."
The first major ASCAR test day is scheduled for Croft on September 13th with at least 10 cars expected to attend the private test. With a variety of big name stars from a wide spectrum of motorsport showing an immense interest in ASCAR, expect more drivers and teams to be announced soon.
